Each one of us comes across several thoughts and quotes in our lifetime that leaves behind some kind of an imprint on us. No one can see it, not even you, but we can always feel the difference that it has brought in our lives. This is something that inspires you, motivates you, and drives you to that extra mile which will only take you further to your success.

Movies have always had a great influence on all of us, whether they are old classics, a new generation of science fiction, or the adorable animated feature films. By narrating stories and weaving in concepts that we believe in, we all have been motivated and influenced by our favorite movies in different ways. Although I have many favorite quotes from different movies, here are 10 most inspirational quotes from some of the movies that have taught me and inspired me in many different ways.

“Our lives are defined by opportunities, even the ones we miss” — Brad Pitt,The Curious Case of Benjamin Button (2008)

Opportunities are everywhere, but it is up to us where we want to look for them. In the process, we are sure to miss out on some great opportunities while we try to grab the other one, but that is what defines us and our lives. Each one of us is bound to miss out on some opportunities, and it is not bad, but whether to be depressed by the fact or move on to find the next big opportunity is always one’s decision.

“Fear can hold you prisoner, hope can set you free!” — Shawshank Redemption (1994)

Not a direct dialogue per say, but this quote has been the central theme of the movie. As beautiful the movie is, so is this quote which shows us what hope can do to you. Hope is a powerful emotion, and the world runs on it. We sleep at nights hoping to wake up the next day, and that is one of the important things in life.

“Don’t let somebody tell you, you can’t do something. Not even me. You got a dream, you got to protect it. When people can’t do something themselves, they’re want to tell you that you can’t do it. You want something, go get it. Period.” — Will Smith, The Pursuit of Happiness (2006)

This quote has made rounds of the internet and yet it doesn’t get old. We all get discouraged by different people in our lives, some intentionally and some perhaps not. But, hardly ever someone would tell us that, they couldn’t do it but maybe you can. Just because others have failed to do something does not necessarily mean that you won’t succeed. So just go for it, whatever you desire.

“Yesterday is history, tomorrow is a mystery, but today is a gift. That’s why it is called the “present”.” — Master Oogway, Kung Fu Panda (2008)

This has been one of my favorite movies, and the movie teaches us some of the important life lessons with its funny connotations. Just like Master Oogway tries to explain it to Po, most of us are too concerned with what has happened in the past and what will happen tomorrow; the two factors of life which we cannot control. So, why to gripe about what was and worry about what will be, but simply live the life to fullest in the present moments.

“Oh yes, the past can hurt. But you can either run from it or learn from it”- Rafiki, The Lion King (1994)

While Master Oogway did teach an important lesson of not worrying about the past, but Rafiki elaborates the thought in Lion King when he tells Simba to learn from it. We all agree that we must learn from the history, but it sure is difficult to practice in real life. However, if we make an attempt to learn from our committed mistakes, our present and future will reap its benefits for sure.

“Everything we think we know about you is wrong” — Hiccup, How to Train Your Dragon (2010)

This quote in the movie might just seem like another dialogue, but it sure has deep meaning in today’s world. It is something that we should have learned a long ago, but we all struggle and fight over the ignorance that breeds fear and this fear results in resentment and war. The world would be a much better place if we all try to understand those we are afraid of before we decide on attacking them.

“It is not our abilities that show what we truly are, it is our choices” — Richard Harris (Albus Dumbledore), Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets (2009)

Harry Potter series, whether the books or movies, have influenced a whole generation. It is not just this quote, but there are several other which are truly inspirational. Many of us come across same circumstances, but our choices during those instances are what define us. What truly important is, what we do rather than what we can do.

“What we do in life echoes in eternity” — Russell Crowe (Maximus), Gladiator (2000)

The thought expressed in this quote is what is known as ‘karma’, the spiritual principle of cause and effect wherein the cause is an individual’s actions and intentions, while the influences it has on that individual’s future is the effect. The good deeds you do in life will bring good fruit to you in the aftermath of life which is meaning Maximus expressed in this quote. If we have good intent and do good deeds, it will bring happiness in the future, but if the intentions and deeds are bad then there will come a time when we will have to pay for those bad deeds in suffering.

“You’re changing that boy’s life. No, he’s changing mine” — Sandra Bullock,The Blind Side (2009)

The Blind Side is a heartwarming true story of an all-American football player, Michael Oher that brought about change in so many lives. While the quote speaks a lot about the story, it holds true for our lives as well. People who come in our lives affect us in so many different ways that make us who we are today. It is up to us to cherish and appreciate the positive influences that people leave upon us and reciprocate those feelings with others.

“Even the smallest person can change the course of the future” — Lady Galadriel, Lord of the Rings: the Fellowship of the Ring (2002)

This particular quote is one of my favorite amongst the several dialogues and quotes that define the Lord of the Rings which is known as one of the best-adapted screenplays of all times. While this quote specifically speaks of the hobbits, it applies to everyone who thinks they are not good enough to achieve something. It is important for each one of us to know that anyone can do anything, only if the desire is strong and we set our mind to it.
